What is Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga?

Whether you’re a yoga veteran in search of an active yoga routine, or you’re new to yoga, Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga gives you all the tools to make your pregnancy journey the best it can be. Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga is your support system leading to a more comfortable pregnancy, quicker and less painful labor, and a speedier postpartum recovery.

Jennifer Wolfe developed Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga during her own pregnancy when she realized that all styles of prenatal yoga offered, at the time, could not adequately prepare her physically and mentally for labor. She wanted a yoga practice that specifically served the needs of the pregnant woman: one that actively prepares women for the marathon event of childbirth, while helping women discover their power and inner strength needed during this transformative period in their lives.

Jennifer Wolfe found these empowering and strengthening qualities in the soft flow of Vinyasa Yoga. In her DVDs, she adapts Vinyasa Yoga for the unique needs of pregnant women, providing a system that works with your body without sacrificing the intensity necessary to prepare for childbirth. By learning to link your breath and movements in a constant flow, you’ll increase your ability to work with your body during labor and childbirth, reducing the need for medications or other interventions; including a decrease in the need for C-sections.

I really like these yoga DVDs. The short forms are great for days when there’s not much time or for a quick stretch in the morning.

Good prenatal yoga routine but poorly knees!
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Overall I enjoyed this prenatal yoga DVD. It’s pretty challenging in parts and you certainly feel like you’ve had a good stretch and a good workout. The instructor explains the poses very well and also explains the benefits. The only problem I found was that it required a lot of kneeling and my knees got really sore. The only way i could do the workout was to put a thick blanket under my knees everytime I needed to kneel. The sun salutations were modified so that each time you moved through a vinyasa, you lunged with one knee on the floor so it was quite repetetive.

Overall, one of the better yoga DVD’s for pregnancy!

    Excellent Prenatal Yoga
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I found this DVD an excellent resource for keeping my body healthy and my mind and spirit clear and open during my pregnancy. There are three different variations that you can follow, which is very helpful for me since I can change even day to day depending on how much energy I have.

Even six months post-partum I still love to use this DVD. The sequences are easy enough to follow (especially if you already have a background in yoga, but I would say they would be doable for a beginner as well) but have enough variation so that they are still engaging. Again the variations have been great while I’ve been regaining my stregnth after birth.

    A pleasant surprise

This is the best Yoga workout I have found so far. It is safe but challenging, the yoga is done at a good paste not to fast and not to slow. The long workout 75 minutes is very challenging in the second trimester. I really appreciate the shorter workouts. The partner workout is a fun bonding opportunity for me and my husband, and will help him prepare to listen to me and support me for the delivery. The modifications for each trimester are the absolute best I have found. Their are enough workouts and modifications in this workout to keep you busy for 9 month.

    Finally, Yoga Flow for Pregnancy!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’ve been practicing yoga on and off for over 13 years. My background is in Ashtanga Warrior Yoga, and I thought I would have to stay away from any sort of power yoga during pregnancy. I was so happy to find this DVD! Most other DVDs are very light and while they are nice for stretching, I didn’t feel I got a complete workout.

I would definitely recommend this DVD set. I have not used the Short Forms DVD yet, but am looking forward to it. My only critique would be that it was sometimes hard to follow some of the poses because it was either too zoomed in, or focusing on one trimester while not showing all models and modifications on camera. I think once I watch it again and pause appropriately until I guarantee my form is right, it will make up for this.

Overall a great DVD that shows wonderful modifications to a more flowing yoga and a safe version of sun salutations.

    Great workout options!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The full-length yoga video plus the various-length short routines are perfect for different situations. They are really good routines that provide great exercise. It’s so nice to have the 15-min and 30-min options for when you do not have enough time to do a full routine.

    I HIGHLY recommend it.

    Great prenatal yoga DVD
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The 3 different programs of this DVD help make it great. I do the long one (45 min) on the weekends and the shorter programs (15 or 30 min) during the week when there isn’t as much time. I also found myself sleeping MUCH better on days when I did yoga. Easy to follow too for someone like myself who is still somewhat of a beginner.

    Only done a few times…
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have only done the 45 minute portion of the video twice so far, but am happy with the video. I am in fairly good shape and athletic so this was a good video for me. May not be appropriate for the beginner. There is quite a bit of squat work, which I loved. I was definitely pleasantly challenged and look forward to trying the other routines soon.

Good variety of poses. I mainly used the DVD with the shorter workouts. The instructor spoke slowly and clearly, which was helpful when not looking at the screen

Great video for those mommies to be who are fit. Many other prenatal videos that I’ve tried haven’t been challenging. So happy there is finally a DVD out there for fit mommies.

    Finally an awesome pre-natal DVD
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This DVD set is a great value. There are 4 different workouts based on how much time you have to spend. What I love is that each workout actually gives you a workout – which you can modify to be easy or vigorous; focusing on building strength, flexibility and ending with relaxation. I’ve tried other pre-natal yoga DVDs and classes and they are so gentle and easy. I have so many good things to stay about this DVD, I highly recommend it.

    for experienced vinyasa yogis only
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I was recommended this video from a friend who knows Jennifer Wolfe, because I had taken on a prenatal yoga class and was grasping for help because I was oriented toward difficult yoga and my ladies wanted to move and to relax and they were not yogis. It was way too hard for them (I never used it) I had to laugh when I saw the modified chatturanga. BUt I think if someone is already fit and their bodies are used to vinyasa this is a great resource for them.

    Vinyasa Yoga Short Forms
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I purchased just the Vinyasa Short Forms DVD and the option of choosing 15 or 30 or 45 minute workouts has been great. I started with the 15 minute routine and worked my way up from there. Also very helpful are the labor poses that were demonstrated. This Vinyasa Yoga has definitely helped with my back pain and I was glad to have some kind of safe exercise program I could do while pregnant. Jennifer Wolfe also explains the modifications for the 3 different trimesters, so you can practice this form of Yoga from your 1st month to your 9th month of pregnancy or anywhere in between.

Nice workout for pregnant women. It gives you a lot of options depending on the trimester you’re it and the time you want to exercise.

I am an avid yoga practitioner and still in my 20s. So glad that I came across this DVD. It is easy to follow and on the mornings where I can barely get out of bed I pop in the short forms. This is for beginners and advanced with lots of modifications for you no matter what level you are. My 4 yr. old son also likes to practice with me as well. I appreciate the PARTNER yoga section that is included for fathers who want to practice and connect with mothers to be.

Loved that I could choose how long I wanted to work out!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I loved these videos and did the yoga every morning for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy. I moved and no longer had access to prenatal yoga classes, so the videos saved me. The way I talked myself into doing it every single day was that I got to choose which program based on how much time I had. This made it easy to at a minimum do a little no matter what.

Thank you Jennifer for a great workout no matter where you are or how long you have. A perfect fit for a busy mom’s life!

    Challenging workout!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I am in my second trimester and new to yoga. I have always worked out and am in good shape so I was worried yoga wouldn’t be a hard enough challenge. I have done the 75 minute and the 45 minute practices and found both of them to be quite challenging and a good work out. Many of the poses make you sweat and feel it the next day. After the video I felt very relaxed also. Great video for someone who is already in decent shape, maybe a little tough for those new to exercise.

Don’t miss this DVD set of pregnancy yoga.
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This set with 2 DVD s is very satisfying, because it includes a wide range of selection of yoga sessions with varying durations. You simply have the chance to choose the one fitting to your time. I cannot consider these as light exercises, you need to work out your body, and be ready to some muscle pain, which feels like a “normal person”, if you were a sportive one before the pregnancy. My main critic would be the high volume of music (though it is nice) accompanying the short sessions, this slightly disturbs concentration.

    Good stuff!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I started having lower back pain in the 19th week of pregnancy and I knew it was due to a lack of exercise. I am considered a high risk pregnancy patient so yoga is the one type of exercise the doc said was okay. After searching through what seemed to be a million websites I found Jennifer Wolf’s Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga. It has a segment on whats okay and whats not okay to do while pregnant. It has a 70 minute yoga session, which I haven’t worked up to doing yet. It also has 15, 30, and 45 minute sessions. I have been alternating between the 15 and 30 minute sessions which are perfect for me. They are just the right length, I do them when I get home from work and by then I’m too tired to do a lengthy class anyway. I also take a weekly one-on-one class with a yoga instructor to work on breathing and to be sure I’m doing poses correctly. What I do in my weekly private session carries over into the daily session I do with the video, and vice versa. Since I began doing a daily 15 or 30 minute session with the video I no longer have lower back pain, my energy level is up, I’m sleeping better, and it only takes a few minutes each day. I highly recommend this product! It would also be very easy for someone who has never done yoga to pick it up quickly. The vinyasa breathing will also be helpful during labor which is another big benefit.

    Jennifer Wolfe “Delivers” great workout
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased several DVDs while pregnant with my son. Being a very active and fit person, I found most prenatal yoga workouts too easy and boring. Jennifer’s workout kept my attention and was quite challenging. I always recommend her DVD to pregnant friends and lend mine out as well! Funny – I still workout to her DVD without being pregnant.

    very happy with this DVD
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased this DVD when I was about 3 months along in my pregnancy. I am young and healthy and have been practicing yoga on & off for years. I wanted something that was challenging & would allow me to break a sweat, while still enjoying the standard benefits of yoga. I feel this DVD met all those requirements. I particularly appreciate that I can choose the length of my session (15, 30, 45, or 75 minutes) and the partner poses. The partner poses are beautiful, something I’ve not encountered anywhere else. Partner poses feel particularly special as they include my boyfriend in this process while preparing us both for labor. Lastly, I live in a climate that has cold, long winters, so I liked that I could do the DVD when I couldn’t exercise outside & still feel like I got a workout.

Exactly What I Was Looking For
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased 2 prenatal yoga DVD’s this one and Shiva Rae’s Prenatal Yoga. Here is my comparison:

Shiva Rae Prenatal Yoga: I like that it has 3 women, one for each trimester but I honestly can’t imagine ever needing to modify as much as the third trimester woman does (she uses a chair in some cases) I use this DVD on days when I want a VERY gentle practice which is not that often.

Complete Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga by Jennifer Wolfe: I have found that I use this DVD almost every day since it also has 3 models, one for each trimester and it has 15, 30, 45 and 75 minute routines plus labor poses and a partner section (which my partner actually does with me!). I love this DVD. The best part is that Jennifer is a doula and childbirth professional so I feel really safe while maintaining my strength and flexibility. This is like a regular vinyasa class, just modified for pregnancy.

    Great DVD!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this DVD for my wife when she was starting her 2nd trimester. She loves to work out, but is a beginner at yoga, and she felt the DVD was very good. All the poses were well-explained, so she was able to keep up with most stuff depite her lack of experience with yoga. The modifications for each trimester were very helpful in letting her know which poses to attempt and which not to.

    Good DVD overall! :)

The DVD is amazing. It’s fun to do. It’s so great to do as a start to the day or even as a nice end of the day workout. It feels great to stretch and relax. Before you start yoga practice or any fitness program talk to your doctor first. Enjoy your DVD.
